Honorary Consul John Parkerson, HCGA President Andrea Lauer Rice and Hungarian Ambassador Gyorgy Szapary

The Ambassadors of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia participated in a historic visit to Atlanta, GA, where they spoke on panels at the World Affairs Council and at Georgia State University. The topics of discussion ranged from the volatile situation in Ukraine, to questions of energy security to regional economic prospects in Central and Eastern Europe.

Hungarian Ambassador György Szapáry holds the V4 rotating presidency in 2013-2014. The ambassadors took the historic trip outside of Washington DC to take part in the program, “Central Europe’s V4: Quest for a Shared Future,” sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and partially funded by a European Union grant.

That evening, the V4 ambassadors attended a reception hosted by the World Trade Center Atlanta, where John Parkerson, Honorary Consul for Hungary, serves as President. Other prominent local Hungarians in attendance included: Dr. Elizabeth Kiss, President of Agnes Scott College, Andrea Lauer Rice, President of the Hungarian Club of Georgia and Imre Safrics, Director at Imworld Services, Inc.

Approximately 160 people attended Tuesday’s Visegrad 4 ambassadors lunchtime program, followed by a discussion at Georgia State University that was attended by approximately 70 faculty and students.
